The field of security and law enforcement is fast-paced where students learn fingerprinting, handcuffing, investigative methods, crime prevention and detection, laws of arrest, crime scene investigation techniques and emergency response. An emphasis is placed on teaching sound decision making skills and good judgment. A New York State Pre-Assignment Security Certification is incorporated in the curriculum.
The Security and Law Enforcement Academy is a New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Security Guard Training School. The program is a student chapter of the following organizations: Teen CERT (Community Emergency Response Team); CAYSA (Corrections and Youth Services Association); and Department of Homeland Security Law Enforcement Exploring. The curriculum includes instruction in all areas of the security profession, corrections, law enforcement, and homeland security. Cadets perform security duties on campus and in the community. Work experiences are available with numerous law enforcement agencies, including but not limited to: U. S. Customs and Border Protection; Clinton County Sheriff ’s Department; U. S. Border Patrol; and Plattsburgh City Police Department.
