CVES’s Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) provides the following services. The services listed are some of the more frequent services provided but is not a complete listing. Services are individualized to the student as no two students are the same.
- Performs Functional Visual Assessments, Learning Media Assessments and assists in Alternate Learning Assessments
- Interprets medical reports, as they pertain to educational needs, for all school personnel and family members
- Consults with all school personnel, parents, and students
- Consults on a regular basis with the New York State Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired and other agencies to meet students’ needs
- Provides brailed materials and modified materials for tests and to classroom staff to meet all academic needs
- Participates in team meetings
- Provides information, to the team, for assistive technology devices
- Provides strategies for visually impaired students to be successful in the classroom and home settings
- Provides instruction in Braille/Compensatory skills, academics, assistive technology devices, social skills, Independent and adaptive living skills, recreational skills, communication skills, and self-advocacy skills
- Provides training to school personnel and family members to better understand and meet the needs of the visually impaired students
- Register students with all agencies which will support visually impaired needs (Commission f/t blind, Recordings f/t blind, Library of Congress)
- Contributes to the development of the IEP
- Provides support to Orientation and Mobility instructors and Rehabilitation Instructors
