Instructional Planning for Assessment Service – CoSer 509

Effective skills in data analysis and interpretation are essential to improved student achievement. This service is aimed at supporting school districts in collecting and analyzing various types of data to identify strengths and weaknesses at either the program level or student level. The Instructional Planning for Assessment Service provides instructional support by training teachers and administrators in the development, proper administration and accurate analysis of student performance assessment data.

This service provides assistance to component districts in creating, improving/sustaining a culture of data-driven decision making through protocols, common language and goal setting. These services can be tailored to support administrative teams, data teams, departments and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) in collecting and analyzing data through a systematic, evidence-based approach.

All educators with a desire to enhance their skills and/or resources for data-driven decision-making can benefit from the continuum of services that are available. The continuum ranges from the provision of comprehensive analyses of district data to general support and training as districts analyze their own data.

Included in this Co-Ser is access to Tableau Data Reports Services offered through NERIC. Tableau allows access to the Level 1 Data Warehouse, Level 2 State Reports data, and NYSED publicly released data. Reports generated in Tableau allow data to become specialized and actionable to accountability, student achievement, and overall district growth.

Services Included:

  • Data review services to support administrative teams in review of district and building level data.
  • One on one assistance with Tableau Data Reports Service
  • Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and needs assessments support for understanding the NYSED Accountability measures.

Extra services to be billed through Co-Ser 506:

These services are designed to help districts translate data into actionable outcomes that drive instructional improvement, strategic planning, and student success

  • Data review services to support data teams, departments, teachers and other professional learning communities in collecting and analyzing data through a systematic, evidence-based approach.
  • Data meetings with teachers or departments in identifying trends and next steps.
  • Subgroup population data review and support for closing achievement gaps.
  • State assessments analysis to inform instruction and school-wide decision-making.
  • Data cycle support and action planning to ensure data leads to timely, purposeful action.
  • Survey construction and analysis to capture stakeholder input and guide responsive practices.
  • Program evaluation to assess impact and inform future programming.
  • Targeting identified needs in school improvement and growth using data.

Curriculum Page

Work through this BOCES area involves providing quality professional development around curriculum and instructional initiatives and promotes sharing and networking among component districts. Staff also serves in assisting districts in obtaining information about current issues and new practices in curriculum and instruction that includes research and facilitation with districts in their exploration of new programs. Additionally, there is work as a liaison with the New York State Education Department to provide districts with the latest information regarding curriculum and instruction and State Education Department initiatives.

Assessment Page

This CoSer provides the opportunity for districts to work with the Coordinator to analyze state, benchmark and formative assessment data. Additionally, the Coordinator may help in the crafting of assessments aligned to standards and curriculum. The Coordinator manages key aspects of regional assessment administration and scoring, such as organizing exam pick-up and return, providing clerical support, and ensuring timely delivery of score sheets to the Regional Information Center (RIC).
