The Science of Reading for Multilingual Learners: NYSED Toolkit Overview

Presenter:        Featuring a presentation by Dr. Socorro Herrera, professor at the College of Education and the director of the Center for Intercultural and Multilingual Advocacy at Kansas State University.

Description:     Join us for a full-day professional learning session focused on the Science of Reading and its application for English Language Learners (ELLs) and Multilingual Learners (MLs). This hybrid webinar will provide New York State administrators and literacy leaders with an overview of the NYSED Science of Reading Toolkit for Multilingual Learners, including an in-dept overview of the six newly released briefs designed to support inclusive reading instruction for ELLs and MLs.

Participants will explore the ontological differences between ELLs, MLs, and monolingual students, and gain practical strategies to enhance literacy outcomes for all learners. The day will include online presentations from state and national experts, paired with in-person facilitated discussions at designated BOCES,

Audience:         This session is ideal for classroom teachers, literacy coaches, ENL/ESL educators, reading specialists, and school/district leaders committed to improving literacy outcomes for multilingual learners.
