Description: The ELA and Literacy Learning Community is a time for ELA and Literacy leaders of the schools in our region to come together to discuss current trends in literacy education, review current NYSED initiatives around ELA instruction, continue to set priorities for future learning opportunities and build capacity, to learn new science of reading (SoR) strategies, and to collaborate/share resources. It is a common time for professionals to grow together to ensure the success of people (staff and ultimately students) in our region. The goal of this group is to bring together ELA and Literacy educators in grades K-12 two times per year for these sessions. Based on feedback from Session One, this workshop will begin with a brief overview of Session One and then focus on practical applications of the science of reading in the classroom. There will be time allotted to work on specific units of study identifying current classroom practices and then applying new high impact SoR strategies to classroom curriculum.
Target Audience: K-12 teacher leader and administrators for each school who have a focus or passion for ELA and/or literacy instruction.
