Learning States of Matter with Ice Castles
Students in Mrs. Haley’s and Mr. Zach’s class worked on a unit about the different states of matter (solid, liquid, and gas).
When learning about solids, the students reviewed pictures and information about the Saranac Lake, NY tradition of building an ice castle, which is constructed by community members every winter. After learning about the history of the castles, the Mrs. Haley’s students built their own ice castles out of sugar cubes.
The students included various details to represent the “real” ice castle in Saranac Lake, inspired by the similar theme of “Adirondack Wildlife.”
