General Session on May 18 for Grades P-12
This day will focus on helping teachers understand what differentiation is and how to approach it as a philosophy of teaching, not as a scripted program. We will examine the different types of differentiation – content, process, product, and environmental – and determine when each is appropriate in the classroom. Included in this discussion will be the relevance of learning profiles, student readiness, and student interest/engagement. As part of the introduction, we will investigate how this generation of students is very different from those in the past and why these differences require differentiation. Teachers will model some high impact/low preparation strategies that assist in differentiating the learning process. These strategies will be easy for teachers to implement and offer an engaging way to begin establishing a differentiated environment.
Leveled Sessions on May 19 (Grades P-5) and May 20 (Grades 6 – 12)
