SUMMARY:Therapeutic Crisis for Schools Two-Day Refresher – Designing a Refresher Training (DRT)
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, October 8\, and Thursday\, October 9\, 2025 \n8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (Registration begins at 7:30 AM) 45-minute lunch on your own \nCVES Conference Center at 1443 Military Turnpike\, Plattsburgh \nCost $940 per person for schools participating in the CVES 506 School Improvement Co-Ser based on 15 participants by June 30\, 2025. \nPresenter: Cornell University Staff \nDescription: Note: This update is only open to qualified applicants who have successfully completed TWO two-day updates\, preferably “Designing Refresher Training” and “The Post-Crisis Response”. \nSocial science literature defines competence in various ways. There are numerous descriptions of what competence entails\, how it is acquired\, and what it means in terms of on-the-job performance. Despite the differences\, the literature is clear that competence involves three domains: knowledge\, skills\, and attitudes. Because TCI training is competency-based\, all three of these domains must be considered when developing competence\, assessing competence\, or determining whether or not competency standards have been achieved in the training setting. TCI trainers have a critical role in not only training staff\, but also in assessing staff competence\, determining whether a training participant has met agency competency standards\, and communicating competency assessments to supervisors for follow-up and additional staff development. \nIMPORTANT Information:   \nAll registered participants will also be required to register directly with Cornell. Upon registering in WinCap\, the link to register with Cornell will be sent to you. \nCornell will send pre-reading materials for this training the week of TBD. It will contain the reference guide\, agenda\, and certification requirements. Participants are required to read and understand the material before the training begins. These will be sent to the school address listed on the participants’ registration forms. If an alternate address is preferred\, please have participants reach out to Alissa Burns Medero at ab358@cornell.edu.  Cancellations must be received prior to the shipment of materials.  Once materials have been sent to participants\, the full cost of the training will be incurred. \nTarget Audience: TCIS Trainers \nRegistration via WinCap: 2025 – 2026 S3 Professional Development

SUMMARY:MTSS Roundtables
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, October 1\, 2025 \nThursday\, January 26\, 2026 \nWednesday\, March 4\, 2026 \nTuesday\, June 2\, 2026 \n8:30 AM to 3:00 PM  (Registration begins at 8:00 AM) Lunch Provided \nCVES Conference Center at 1443 Military Turnpike\, Plattsburgh \nCost $500 per person for schools participating in the CVES 506 School Improvement Co-Ser based on 25 participants \nPresenter: Stephanie Sorgule\, Assessment and Planning Coordinator \nDescription: The Roundtable workshops provide a collaborative platform for districts within our region to convene with their MTSS teams. The primary goal is to enhance participants’ understanding of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)\, foster professional capacity\, introduce effective strategies\, and encourage resource sharing. The workshops serve as a dedicated space for professionals to engage in growth opportunities aimed at improving outcomes for both staff and students within our region. Each session will focus on current trends and best practices in MTSS\, alongside a review of existing systems. New participants will receive a copy of Integrated Multi-Tiered Systems of Support: Blending RTI and PBIS (The Guilford Practical Intervention in the Schools Series)\, 1st Edition\, by Kent McIntosh and Steve Goodman\, as a key resource for deepening their knowledge and application of MTSS principles. \nAt the second Roundtable\, on January 29th\, Dr. Heidi Beverine-Curry will join us for the day.  During the morning\, Dr. Beverine-Curry will lead a conversation about how we transitioned from RTI to MTSS. \nRTI in NYS: Looking Back\, Looking Ahead \nRTI was once the hottest topic in reading education\, but failed to produce impressive results\, according to a national study and NAEP scores. Where did RTI come from? Why didn’t RTI live up to its promise? How does RTI/MTSS intersect with current attention to the science of reading in NYS? What can we salvage from the original research and intent that precipitated RTI as we move forward to empower educators and increase student literacy achievement? \nTarget Audience: MTSS Teams including administrators\, teachers\, interventionists\, counselors. \nRegistration via WinCap: 2025 – 2026 S3 Professional Development
