This one-day program will focus on the risk assessment process. Participants will focus on key competency areas such as assessing risk\, planning to reduce risk\, risk management and review\, and assessing the risk of physical restraints. All participants a retested with written and competency based tests to apply for re-certification. Participants will be able to: \n• Focus on the concept of reducing the risk of injury and trauma while providing meaningful experiences for children so that they may continue to grow and develop necessary life skills \n• Utilize a five-step risk assessment model that care workers\, supervisors\, and managers can use to assess\, manage\, and review risk in their programs \n• Explore tools that encourage individuals to consider individual\, situational\, decision-making\, management\, and system-wide risk factors which influence risk-taking and therefore positively or negatively impact the life experiences of children in their care. \nIMPORTANT Information: \nAll registered participants will also be required to register directly with Cornell. Costs will be dependent on number of schools participating and purchasing the exams. \nPresenter: Stephanie Sorgule\, School Support Services Assessment and Planning Coordinator \nParticipants will review and revise (if necessary) current World Language Checkpoint A format and create question banks in French and Spanish for the Checkpoint A exams. Participants will supply in advance or bring with them reading passages\, realia\, and authentic documents in digital format to be used as the basis of listening and reading questions. Most of day1 will be spent writing test items using the submitted materials\, with the start of the day spent reviewing the current test format and guidelines for item writing. Day 2 will be for review of test bank items for quality\, levels\, and topics/standards. Additionally\, any revisions to administration manuals and rubrics will be done on this day. If necessary\, a day in January will be spent editing and doing a quality review on the test bank questions. A World Language consultant at CVES will choose questions from the banks to create the proficiency exams for the June 2027 administration by the end of March. A draft printing will take place in April. The exams will be reviewed and edited by individuals who do not have a vested interest in the outcomes of the tests in mid-April\, prior to the final printing. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, January 19\, 2027 \n8:30 AM to 11:30 AM (Registration begins at 8:00 AM) \nCVES Conference Center at 1443 Military Turnpike\, Plattsburgh \nPresenter: Amy Campbell\, Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services \nDescription: This training is for administrators who require Initial Lead Evaluator Training.  Participants must have attended Session 2 on September 15th and either Gearing Up in August or completed the alternative if they were unable to attend.  This workshop is for administrators who will be evaluating staff under APPR 3012-d. This session will satisfy all 9 required elements for certification as a Lead Teacher Evaluator. Participants should have conducted some evaluations prior to attending to participate in a roundtable sharing of experiences completing all components of the observation cycle. \nThe 9 Required Elements set forth by the New York State Education Department include: \n1. New York State Teaching Standards and their related elements and performance indicators and the Leadership Standards and their related functions\, as applicable. \n2. Evidence-based observation techniques that are grounded in research. \n3. Application and use of the student growth percentile model and the value-added growth model as defined in section 30-2.2 of this Subpart. \n4. Application and use of the State-approved teacher or principal rubric(s) selected by the district or BOCES for use in evaluations\, including training on the effective application of such rubrics to observe a teacher or principal’s practice. \n5. Application and use of any assessment tools that the school district or BOCES utilize to evaluate its classroom teachers or building principals\, including but not limited to\, structured portfolio reviews; student\, parent\, teacher and/or community surveys; professional growth goals and school improvement goals\, etc. \n6. Application and use of any State-approved locally selected measures of student achievement used by the school district or BOCES to evaluate its teachers or principals. \n7. Use of the Statewide Instructional Reporting System. \n8. The scoring methodology utilized by the Department and/or the district or BOCES to evaluate a teacher or principal under this Subpart\, including how scores are generated for each subcomponent and the composite effectiveness score and application and use of the scoring ranges prescribed by the Commissioner for the four designated rating categories used for the teacher’s or principal’s overall rating and their subcomponent ratings. \n9.
