This full day workshop will focus on developing a better understanding of how the writing process meshes with the 6+1 writing traits. Elementary teachers K-5 and ELA teachers, grades 6-9, are encouraged to attend. Writing Standards 4-6 focus on the writing process. In addition, many of the new reading series as well as the NYS curriculum utilize both the writing process and the writing traits.
Workshop participants will
- gain an understanding of the steps in the writing process and modeling techniques for students
- take an in-depth look at the utilization of the 6+1 traits in writing instruction
- develop insight on how the two blend together
- practice scoring student writing samples using the 6+1 rubrics.
Teachers are encouraged to bring samples of their own students’ writing for scoring
discussion. They will have the opportunity to work in grade level groupings – K-2,
3-5, 6-9 – examining student writing and planning process/trait instruction.
