Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS)
Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools is a crisis intervention and prevention program created by Cornell University designed to teach staff how to help at-risk children learn constructive ways to handle crisis.
The goals of the training program include assisting organizations in prevention crisis from occurring, de-escalating emerging crisis, managing acute physical behavior, and reducing potential and actual injury to young people and staff. This model gives organizations a framework for implementing a crisis prevention and management system that reduces the need to rely on high-risk intervention.
TCIS is recommended for all school staff and is most effective when it is being used consistently by all staff members and classroom teams. Participants must attend all four days and successfully complete the written and practical exams to show they have met competency standards using the TCI techniques to obtain certification.
Training Schedule/Attendance: Training sessions are tightly scheduled. In order to become certified participants, need to attend the entire duration of the sessions.
Appropriate Clothing: Participants should wear comfortable clothing that will allow them to move freely as well as closed-toed, close-heeled, flat shoes.
Materials: You do not need to bring any materials with you
