Description: This interactive workshop will explore the importance of explicit and systematic literacy instruction across all curricular areas. Looking at the changing definition of literacy in the information age, participants will apply the Science of Reading, review current curricula in use, select new practices for implementation and examine the role of the reading/writing practices across disciplines. Participants will leave the workshop with a greater understanding of the components of the Science of Reading, and strategies to include student equity in reading and writing instruction/practices.
Participants are asked to bring lessons, activities, grade level plans, and cross curricular units. Time will be allotted for application of workshop information to your own grade levels and for horizontal and vertical curriculum discussion. Participants are expected to bring their own laptops for use during the workshop.
Target Audience: 7th – 12th Grade Educators, Grade level teams
