Charlie Brown’s New Football – Social Media in the Age of DASA
Good Grief! Remember when all you had to worry about was whether Lucy would steal the ball? The convenience of internet, electronic communication, portable devices, videos, recordings and the basic social media frenzy has catapulted harassment and bullying to an entirely new art form. Relying upon the implied anonymity, students share their ideas, blithely unconcerned about the aftermath of their 42 characters. Understanding the climate of social media is essential to help schools manage and respond to the threat of bullying and harassment I the cyber age. This program will explore and explain your obligations under the Dignity for All Students Act, in addition to offering strategies for implementation, investigation, intervention and documentation. From the trenches, we will reveal what works, what doesn’t, and offer suggestions on what you can do now to change your school’s culture and climate as it relates to harassment and bullying.
