Candidates for the Combined Elizabethtown-Lewis-Westport Central School District Board of Education Submit Petitions and Participate in a Drawing for Ballot Order

As part of the successful December 4, 2018 Elizabethtown-Lewis and Westport Central Schools merger vote, residents will vote on Jan. 29, 2019 from noon to 8:00 pm to established a new Board of Education composed of seven members. Since this is the first election,  the top three vote getters shall serve three year terms, the fourth and fifth vote getters shall serve two year terms, and the sixth and seventh shall serve one year terms. When the newly merged district begins regular Board of Education elections in the following year, future members will be elected to full three year terms going forward.

On Jan. 8, 2019, potential candidates for the combined Elizabethtown-Lewis-Westport (ELW) Central School District Board of Education submitted candidate petitions by 5:00 pm to the District Clerks at either the Elizabethtown-Lewis or Westport district offices. Dr. Mark Davey, District Superintendent of Champlain Valley Educational Services and Interim Superintendent of the combined Elizabethtown-Lewis-Westport CSD conducted a drawing to determine the position of candidates on the ballot. Dr. Davey has been charged by the NYS Education Commissioner to supervise the election and will be working with the State Educational Department to conduct it.

As per Commissioner of Education MaryEllen Elia’s Order, the election for the new Board of Education will take place on January 29, 2019 at the Elizabethtown-Lewis school building, the sole polling site, from noon – 8:00 pm.
