Day of Events to Celebrate CVES 75th Anniversary
PLATTSBURGH – Champlain Valley Educational Services will commemorate its 75th anniversary with a day full of celebratory events, including a visit from the education leader of New York State.
“We are so honored and thrilled that Commissioner Dr. Betty Rosa will join us to celebrate this momentous occasion, as we appreciate all the efforts she champions on behalf of educators across the state,” said CVES District Superintendent Dr. Mark Davey. “We have a fantastic day planned, and I hope staff and board members from throughout the years as well as CVES alumni and community partners will consider joining us.”
The celebration will happen Thursday, Oct. 17. During the day, the public is invited to a free event, A Walk Through Time, at the CVES Conference Center. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., attendees will be able to peruse a variety of photos, documents and memorabilia that tell the history of CVES, including historic yearbooks, newspaper clippings, and programs from various special events throughout the years.
At 1:30 p.m., officials will gather at the walkthrough for a press conference. Dr. Betty Rosa, commissioner of the New York State Education Department, will share remarks. Attendees can also expect comments from District Superintendent Dr. Mark Davey and other stakeholders.
“It’s quite overwhelming to look over the pieces of 75 years of history and think about all the lives that have been touched by the work of CVES,” said Board President Michael St. Pierre. “I’m proud to be a part of this organization and all that it encompasses.”
In the evening, CVES will host a Diamonds and Denim Reception from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the West Side Ballroom in Plattsburgh. Guests at the elegant reception will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, music and a celebratory presentation. Day Automation is generously sponsoring drinks for the event.
Tickets for the evening event are $20, and they can be purchased with cash or check at the front office at the CVES Conference Center.
“While we mark this anniversary, it’s important to take the time to look back over our history and honor and celebrate where we’ve come from and all the amazing work done throughout the organization over the last 75 years,” said Amy Campbell, CVES assistant superintendent for educational services.
The Clinton-Essex-Warren-Washington Board of Cooperative Educational Services was formed in 1949 to help improve both the equity and cost effectiveness of educational service in the North Country. Initially, the agency offered three services to its component school districts: elementary art, school nurse-teacher and dental hygiene.
The BOCES started using the name Champlain Valley Educational Services in 1995. It has grown to include 16 component school districts across four counties, while providing programs and services to over 50 school districts across New York State.
CVES is one of 37 BOCES across New York State.
“For 75 years, CVES BOCES has been a cornerstone in providing vital educational opportunities and workforce development across our region, helping to strengthen our communities and local economy,” said CVES Deputy Superintendent Dr. Eric Bell. “As we envision the future, the imperative for innovative and adaptable BOCES programs and services is more crucial than ever to effectively meet the shifting needs of our school districts and communities, ensuring continued success and resilience in an increasingly complex and evolving global landscape.”
