Dear Prospective TEC KidNections!

Participant, On behalf of everyone at CV-TEC, I am proud to present our Spring 2020 TEC KidNections! Catalog. This edition reflects our commitment to children, to parents, and to our community as we invite you into the wonderful world of Career and Technical Education (CTE). By offering TEC KidNections! courses, we hope to provide children and area residents with engaging, experiential learning activities, and to provide a sample of the many and varied career paths we provide our full and part time students annually. TEC KidNections! participants are invited to experience one or more of our engaging CTE learning environments through fun, hands-on learning activities. I hope you find the Spring 2020 TEC KidNections! course offerings of interest to you. We have the highest expectation that you will enjoy your time with us as you experience the career and technical learning environments filled by hundreds of CV-TEC secondary and post-secondary students each year. Please feel free to make an appointment to visit us any time.  Our administrators, counselors, and teachers welcome the opportunity to provide area residents and their families with the opportunity to discuss and to explore our many learning environments!

4 Hour Self Defense Course for Beginners

Learn how to respond to aggressive behavior utilizing de-escalation strategies, tactical positioning, distraction techniques, pressure points, blocks, and defensive counter strikes. (4 hours)

Performing Mini Facials & Mini Manicures!

Learn the basics in cleanser removal and how to apply and remove mask. CV-TEC’s expert teacher will also lead participants in a brief massage session! Mini manicures will involve basic hand massage, basic filing, and basic painting. (3 hours)

Baking 101

Learn the basics of baking. Classes will be a mix of chef demonstration and hands-on work, with everyone getting to bring home a little something. Learn how to bake:

  • Bacon and Chive Scones

Learn the basics of hand stretched pizza making. Classes will be a mix of chef demonstration and hands-on work from selected students, with everyone getting to bring home a little something. Learn:

  • Hand stretching of dough
  • NY and Neapolitan style pizza making

The basics of making a broth, the puree process, and creation of a chowder-style soup. Classes will be a mix of chef demonstration and hands-on work, with everyone getting to bring home a little something. Learn how to make:

At the CV-TEC Plattsburgh Satellite Campus:

GSPP 100A Ground School for Prospective Pilots

This course is designed to help high school and adult students evaluate the exciting field of aviation as a career or hobby. The program prepares students to successfully pass the FAA private pilot written exam. Upon passing completion of the course, students will receive an endorsement to take the FAA Private Pilot Written Exam. Participants interested in pursuing flight lessons must make non-affiliated, separate arrangements with qualified flying schools. (48 hr. course)
Minimum age: 16
Required: Students must purchase their own “Private Pilot Kit” —
Part 61; ASA Recommended. Approximate cost, $90.00.

Basic Electrical for the Home!

e Learn basic electrical skills every homeowner should know. Participants will learn basic techniques stripping wire, turning off circuits and testing for voltage, how to wire an outlet and a single pole switch. These basic skills are the start to some of our more in-depth electrical courses. (3 hour session)
