CV-TEC Animal Science Students visit local PetSmart

Animal Science Students Visit PetSmartStudents in CV-TEC’s Animal Science/Veterinary Assistant program stepped out of the classroom Thursday for a field trip to the local PetSmart in Plattsburgh, NY.

“Our purpose for the fieldtrip was to take a tour of all the retail related aspects when working with animals at PetSmart,” Teacher Erin Meyer explained. “From customer service, warehouse, dog bathers, dog groomers and small animal care attendants.

Students asked what education and skills are required for each position.  They learned of the different career opportunities with a corporation.  They also discussed the online application process, and what store managers look for in a good quality applicant and employee.

The students discussed the shipment process for animals, daily care and care of sick animals in the isolation unit.

The groomers spoke extensively on the process of becoming a groomer, attending grooming school and the day-to-day responsibilities as a groomer.
