On December 11, 2018, residents of the 17 component school districts in the Champlain Valley Educational Services (CVES) BOCES voted in a referendum on a proposed $29.85 million Capital Project.
Chief Election Inspector Meaghan Rabideau, has announced that the final vote tally was 1252 (72%) Yes and 493 (28%) No, including absentee and on-site ballots. Therefore, the CVES BOCES Capital Project has been approved. Voting was conducted in every one of the 17 districts by paper ballot.
Dr. Mark Davey, District Superintendent of CVES, thanked the voters, “I wish to thank the voters of the CVES BOCES service area, for approving this important investment in the future of our students and endorsement of CVES’ continued strong partnership with our component school districts, local businesses and surrounding communities. This project will improve security and safety on all of our campuses, allow critical long-term infrastructure improvements such as roofs, windows and doors, provide enhanced educational opportunities for our students, CVES staff and component district personnel. Additionally, CVES will save approximately $260,000 in lease costs per year with this approval, totaling over $2.6 million every ten years moving forward”.
CVES Board President Larry Barcomb said, “We have been working diligently for the past three years to design a capital improvement project that will allow CVES to prepare our students to meet their educational goals and to provide multiple pathways for entering the workforce, post-secondary education and successful careers in a safe, well-maintained environment. This project was long overdue, the last major one occurred in 1985. I wish to thank the voters for sharing and supporting our vision for the future of CVES.”
