Workshop Description:

This presentation will review recent communications from NYSED that encourage districts to develop effective AIS services within existing models of RTI. Participants are encouraged to bring and further develop their existing plans for RTI and AIS service provision. As a result of this workshop, participants will:

  • Better understand how AIS services can be effectively implemented within an RTI model
  • Discuss common barriers to effective AIS services including scheduling, student entry and exit criteria, student grouping, and integration with other academic supports
  • Be informed of options communicated by NYSED for the integration of AIS and RTI
  • Spend time revising their existing plans for increased integration of AIS and RTI services
  • Develop goals and outcome assessments to measure the effectiveness of the services they provide to students.

This workshop is designed for teams of educators from schools and districts currently implementing RTI and wishing to improve the effectiveness of AIS services. Possible participants include teachers, administrators, reading teachers, AIS providers, special educators, related service providers, school psychologists, school counselors, paraprofessionals, and other educators working to provide academic support to students.
