Workshop Description:

In spring of 2003, NYSED and the Board of Regents adopted the Essential Elements of Standards-Focused Middle-Level Schools and Programs to serve as a research-based “standard” for what exemplary middle-level programs should look like in New York State.  These Essential Elements are now required to be implemented in all NYS middle-level programs, per Commissioner’s Regulations 100.4.

Organizing a middle-level program for success is one of the first steps in implementing the Essential Elements, and interdisciplinary teaming is the key component of a middle-level organizational structure. In this workshop, participants will:

  • Explore the unique developmental needs of  middle level students;
  • Discover the value of collaborative interdisciplinary teaming in meeting these needs;
  • Explore the various roles and responsibilities of team members;
  • Develop their understanding of and commitment to interdisciplinary teaming;
  • Begin to plan for “organizing for success.”
