Plattsburgh Aeronautical Institute (PAI)

Core Curriculum in Aviation Technology

PAI's curriculum has been written in accordance with FAA Part 147 Airframe and Powerplant Regulations, with New York State Education Department (NYSED) regulations, with Middle States accreditation requirements, with SUNY program approval requirements, with NASA's mission, vision and procedural requirements, and in consideration of the standards established by Transport Canada (T.C.). All Technician Candidates enrolled in the PAI program will be required to complete a minimum of 2,200 hours of coursework. These hours reflect a program of study that incorporates FAA and Transport Canada requirements.

Our Program For High School Students:

Plattsburgh Aeronautical Institute’s daytime programs have been designed to provide juniors and seniors from CV-TEC's 17 component districts with a high-quality, aeronautical training and experience. This program option will feature integrated academics, and the option of earning up to 36 college technology credits through an articulation agreement with Clinton Community College and 42 college credits through an articulation agreement with Mohawk Valley Community College.  As with other CV-TEC programs, adult students may enroll in either of the two daytime sessions (8:30 - 11:30 am; 12:00 - 3:00 pm).

FAA regulations require three components of study in an Airframe and Powerplant program: a "General" program of study (required of all students seeking A & P licensure); an "Airframe" program of study, and a "Powerplant" program of study. After completing the "General" portion of their aeronautical program, students may progress toward FAA licensure as an "Airframe," Technician, as a "Powerplant" Technician, or both.

For those secondary “Technician Candidates” who complete two years of academic study in CV-TEC's Aviation Technology program, CV-TEC will award a Graduation Certificate.  Those students who complete their PAI academic instruction as post-graduates (an additional year plus one summer), CV-TEC will confer a Plattsburgh Aeronautical Institute (PAI) Graduation Diploma and recommend them to the FAA for final evaluation and licensure as FAA Airframe and Powerplant Technicians.

Technician Candidates who pass their FAA examinations and who wish to enroll in an Associates Degree program through Clinton Community College or Mohawk Valley Community College will be recommended by CV-TEC to these colleges for this purpose.

Our Evening Program for Adults:

Adults who have graduated from high school, who have earned their GED, or who have graduated from a post-secondary institution, may enroll in PAI’s evening program (3:00 pm – 9:00 pm).

The adult evening program will provide Technician Candidates with continuous enrollment over a two year period (plus summers) and will provide candidates with the option of earning up to 36 college technology credits through an articulation agreement with Clinton Community College and up to 42 college technology credits though an articulation agreement with Mohawk Valley Community College.

Those adult “Technician Candidates” who complete their course of study in CV-TEC's Aviation Technology program will be awarded with a Plattsburgh Aeronautical Institute (PAI) Graduation Diploma and will be recommend them to the FAA for final evaluation and licensure as FAA Airframe and Powerplant Technicians.

Technician Candidates who pass their FAA examinations and who wish to enroll in an Associates Degree program will be recommended by CV-TEC to Clinton Community College or to Mohawk Valley Community College for this purpose.
