Plattsburgh Aeronautical Institute (PAI)

Core Curriculum

PAI's curriculum is currently being written in accordance with FAA Part 147 Airframe and Powerplant Regulations, with New York State Education Department (NYSED) regulations, with Middle States accreditation requirements, with SUNY program approval requirements, with NASA's mission, vision and procedural requirements, and in consideration of the standards established by the Canadian Aviation Maintenance Council (CAMC).

Our Program For High School Students:

The Plattsburgh Aeronautical Institute will be designed to provide juniors and seniors from CV-TEC's 17 component districts with high-quality, aeronautical training and experience. This program option will feature integrated academics, college CAP credit, and the option of earning an Associates Degree from Clinton Community College during a third year of study (including summers).

FAA regulations require three components of study in an Airframe and Powerplant program: a "General" program of study (required of all students seeking A & P licensure); an "Airframe" program of study, and a "Powerplant"
program of study. After completing the "General" portion of their aeronautical program, students may progress toward FAA licensure as an "Airframe," Technician, as a "Powerplant" Technician, or both.

For those who complete CV-TEC's "General" and "Airframe: Part I" components of study, CV-TEC will confer its graduation certificate. For those students who continue their instruction in PAI's articulated program, Clinton Community College will confer an Associates Degree to those who complete an additional year of post secondary study and will collaborate in providing graduates with the opportunity to take the FAA Part 147 exams. Successful passing of these exams will result in FAA licensure as an "Airframe" and a "Powerplant" Technician.

An AVT Certificate option is also currently being evaluated by CV-TEC and Clinton Community College.

For Adults:

Adults who have graduated from high school, earned their GED, or who have graduated from a post-secondary institution, may enroll in the PAI program. Initial, full-time enrollment in CV-TEC's Part 147 "General" and "Airframe:
Part I" sequence will be followed by a seamless enrollment in CCC's "Airframe: Part II" and "Powerplant" sequence.

For those adults who seek to earn an Associates Degree as an Aeronautical Technician, additional, degree-related courses may be required.

All Technician Candidates enrolled in the PAI program will be required to complete a minimum of 2,400 hours of coursework. These hours reflect a program of study that incorporates FAA and Transport Canada requirements.

PAI Partners Acquire College of the Ozarks' Part 147 Program and Other Important Equipment

Duirng the Summer of 2007, PAI partners acquired approximately $4 million worth of instructional aviation equipment from the College of the Ozarks, in Branson, Missouri. Using funds from their previously acquired NASA grant, PAI partners successfully bid $382,000 to make this important acquisition. Coupled with other important Summer and Fall 2007 equipment acquisitions, PAI partners are nearing their goal of opening a world class Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) program in September 2008.
