New Visions: Medical Careers at ECHNew Visions: Medical Careers combines two worlds for the motivated, advanced high school seniors: the professional and the collegiate.

Professional

Elizabethtown Community Hospital clinical rotations allow student access to a wide variety of medical professionals and administrative staff. Local providers enhance the experience by providing presentations pertaining to medical equipment, techniques, and their business days within their field of expertise.

Occupational observational opportunities may include:

Collegiate

Located in Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School, the educational experience is enhanced by a large instructional space which provides students with access to computers, and laboratory equipment.   Here, New Visions: Medical Career students complete an intense combination of high school and college level course work. High school credits are provided for the following subjects: Science, Government, Economics and English.

Collaboration with North Country Community college provides students with the opportunity to obtain college credits through dual enrollment for the low cost of $50 per course.

Admission:

Students interested in a medical field are encouraged to apply. Admission is based on a competitive application process which includes faculty recommendations, student academic performance, a student essay and an interview.

Qualified applicants possess the following traits:

  • Ability to work independently or in teams
  • Possess a passion for medicine
  • A Strong attendance record
  • An academic average of 85% or better
  • Have completed 3 years of Regents Science and English
