In the CTE approved Medical Office Assisting Program you will learn extensive medical office procedures and terminology, office ten-key calculating, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, CPR/AED certification training, Professional Development Program (PDP) activities, 21st Century Soft Skills, and HIPAA regulations.
Students apply all of these skills and more at an off-site internship toward the end of the first year. (off-site placements are pending based on class attendance and success with course content) Students also learn an office management scheduler system for data entry as used in many local offices. We also have partnerships with several local medical offices to provide students with on-the-job rotation work experience.
Students in this program must have strong keyboarding and proofreading skills. Daily class attendance and participation are necessary to be successful in this program and career field. Up-to-date computer equipment, as well as, an interactive SmartBoard are featured in the office assisting programs.
This program is available at the Plattsburgh Campus.
Students enrolled in this program are eligible to earn integrated academic credit toward graduation and the CTE Endorsement (Advanced Designation in Career and Technical Education) on their High School Diploma.
