2009 Technology Forum

The New York State Board of Regents is dedicated to closing the gaps in student academic achievement along the lines of income, race and ethnicity, language and disability; and keeping up with the growing demands for still more knowledge and skill in the face of increasing competition in a changing economy.

A key strategy to address these two challenges is the development of a statewide educational technology plan for the University of the State of New York (USNY), New York's interconnected system of educational services. The Regents have developed a mission statement and six goals for educational technology statewide.

Mission:
The education technology mission of the Board of Regents is to develop policies, recommend practices, advocate for resources, and create incentives for action that turn our vision into a commonplace reality. Our mission, through the University of the State of New York (USNY), is to provide a user-friendly and seamless technology-enhanced learning environment that serves the increasing needs of our citizens.

Six Goals:
1.  Standards-based, accessible digital content supports all curricula for all learners.
2.  Learners, teachers, and administrators are proficient in the use of technology for learning.
3.  New York’s technology infrastructure supports teaching and learning in all environments.
4.  USNY institutions are united in realizing the vision.
5.  All New Yorkers can obtain and understand information to assess teaching and learning.
6.  Funding is coordinated, adequate, and sustainable, and is equitably distributed.

Public Forum:
As part of the final development of a technology plan, CVES and the NYS Education Dept. organized a public forum at the Peru High School, one of nine held across the state. The aim of the forum was to provide the Regents and the State Education Department with a representative sampling of stakeholders throughout the 17 CVES component school districts, and to solicit their recommendations on the action steps needed to achieve the Regents’ goals listed above.
